Mailu tells nurses to cease strike and resume negotiations
Health Cabinet secretary Cleopa Mailu has urged the Kenya National Union of Nurses (KNUN) to call off the strike that has paralyzed public health facilities and resume negotiations with the Council of Governors.
He said his ministry was concerned with the frequent labour unrest that continue to rock the health sector describing the suffering that kenyans have been subjected to as unacceptable.
Dr mailu wondered why the nurses’ union left the negotiating table noting that the negotiation process has been going on smoothly under the guidance of the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC).
“It is not appropriate to put lives of Kenyans at risk when an employer and employee do not agree but I know that there is a possibility of agreement and my ministry will do everything possible to ensure that services are restored,” he said.
Speaking to the press at Kabarak university where he represented President Uhuru Kenyatta, Mailu accused the union for circumventing the law to meet their interests.
“You cannot break the law to achieve an objective,” he said.
