Ulinzi romp in services of former Kenya 7s coach ahead of new season

Former Kenya 7s head coach Paul Murunga has been called upon by Kenya Premier League (KPL) side Ulinzi Stars to help the team on strength and conditioning purposes ahead of the new season.

Murunga, a legend in his own rights, has been part of the Kenya Sevens technical team that brought home the first ever cup title in Singapore serving under the tutelage eye of the late Benjamin Ayimba.

Murunga is also a former player with both the Kenya Sevens and Kenya fifteens national teams.

“We are proud to introduce to you Paul “Pau” Murunga Amunavi. Yes, he is our very own! Our Ulinzi Rugby Legend! The World Rugby Level 2 and Level 1 7s tactician is a two-time Olympic Rugby Coach (Nanjin, China 2014 and Rio, Brazil 2016), Local and continental winner of varied accolades and achievements both as a player and a coach,” the club stated.

The club further revealed that the Kenya Harlequin Head Coach is a member of their strength and conditioning team, which is striving to get players in better form for the upcoming season.

“To cap it all, he brought Kenya the first ever World Rugby Sevens Series Title in Singapore 2016 as an Assistant Coach. The coach is part of the club’s pre-season fitness and conditioning team in a bid to get our stars back into shape,” the statement further said.

The inclusion of Murunga for the soldiers will seek to improve the dismal performance posted by Ulinzi in the past season.

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Transition Committee has since confirmed that the Kenya Premier League (KPL) season will commence on August 27, 2022.
