Four killed, 12 injured in fresh wave of road crashes countrywide

The country has continued to grapple with a high burden of road traffic deaths, with motorcycles emerging as a major contributor to fatalities and injuries.

At least four people were killed and 12 others seriously injured in separate road accidents reported across Kenya within the last 12 hours amid growing concerns over road safety and the rising number of motorcycle-related crashes.

According to the latest evening traffic brief released on Monday, June 22, the Traffic Department recorded four fatal accidents that claimed the lives of four people, including three motorcycle riders and a pedestrian.

Police also documented three serious road crashes in different parts of the country, leaving 12 people nursing severe injuries.

The injured included seven pillion passengers, two passengers, one motorcycle rider, one pedestrian and a driver.

Traffic authorities expressed concern over the increasing number of motorcycle-related accidents, noting that riders and pillion passengers continue to account for a significant proportion of road crash casualties in recent months.

Officials urged motorists, motorcycle operators and pedestrians to strictly adhere to road safety regulations, particularly during night travel and when using roads known to be accident hotspots.

The latest fatalities come against the backdrop of persistent efforts by traffic police to curb road carnage through intensified enforcement of road safety laws targeting speeding, reckless driving, drunk driving and non-compliance with traffic rules.
