KMPDU officials to attend special prayer service tomorrow

Officials of Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPPDU) are tomorrow morning expected to attend a special prayer service before going to the Court of Appeal for the hearing of a case in which they have appealed against a jail sentence imposed on them.

Today, we established that the prayer session will be presided over by the head of the Anglican Church in Kenya (ACK) Archbishop Jackson ole Sapit at the All Saints’ Cathedral.

The one month jail term was handed to the KMPPDU officials by Lady Justice Hellen Wasilwa of the Employment and Labour Relations Court after they were cited for contempt of court.

Highly placed sources within the ACK fraternity confided in the Informer  that Archbishop Ole Sapit has offered to hold the 7 am mass for the medical fraternity as one way of seeking for a faster and amiable solution to their grievances.

On Monday last week, Justice Wasilwa lifted suspension of the sentence she had delivered on the KMPDU officials after  failed to comply with the conditions she had given, thus paving the way for their formal incarceration.

She had on December 20 found them guilty of contempt after they ordered their members to boycott work from December 5 and declined to respect her directive to call off the strike.
