School calendars will not be extended, Magoha says

Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha has maintained that school calendars will not be extended.

Speaking after opening Competency Based Curriculum classrooms in Njiru, Magoha noted that the government is concerned to make sure the school calendar returns to normal in January.

“Everybody seems to be worried that time should be extended, in my assessment most schools have already completed the syllabus, they just need to revise, and all will be well, those that think the term will be short, we wait and cross the bridge when we get there,” he stated.

He said that despite the tumultuous political climate, there are currently no intentions to change the calendar.

Magoha declared that the scheduled administration of the national exams would occur.

Given that the second term is scheduled to expire on September 16, schools are required to make up lost time in the following four weeks.

In an effort to make up for the lost time in the already constricted academic calendar, Magoha stated last week that schools would not be closed in case of a repeat election.

The CS added that since most counties have completed 85 per cent of them, the government is on track to implement junior secondary classrooms.

He advised administrators to engage with the parents to find a solution rather than sending any students home for failing to pay their tuition.
