Two nabbed in bhang, chang’aa during police operation in Nyatike
NPS affirmed its commitment and efforts to eradicate illicit drugs and alcohol in the country
Two suspects are expected to be arraigned in court after they were arrested with 140 rolls, one broom, and 40 sticks of a substance believed to be cannabis sativa (bhang), together with 1.5 litres of suspected chang’aa brew.
The two were arrested on Sunday during a police operation in Nyatike Sub-County of Migori County.
“A decisive crackdown by police in Nyatike led to the arrest of two suspects and the seizure of narcotics and illicit alcohol,” the National Police Service (NPS) said in a statement.
Affirming its commitment and efforts to eradicate illicit drugs and alcohol, NPS has stated that the two will be arraigned in court.
“Both suspects were placed in police custody pending processing and arraignment.”
Separately, animals stolen from Welegech earlier this month were on Sunday recovered after a swift multi-agency operation for the recovery of stolen livestock along the Kenya-Ethiopia border.
The multi-agency team led by Kokuro ACC Evans Kimoni and Kokuro Deputy Officer Commanding Station Officer together with local chiefs and county government officials, recovered eight cattle at the Lowaat border point between Kibish, Kenya, and Dassanech Woreda, Ethiopia.
The animals had been stolen from Welegech by suspected bandits.
In a coordinated cross-border operation, the cattle were returned to the Kenyan administration without incident.
The authorities for both countries used the opportunity to reaffirm their joint commitment to peace, security, and cooperation along the shared border.
