Kenya Navy Hospital offers medical aid to 8 foreigners after a boat accident

A medical team from the Kenya Navy Hospital has offered medical treatment to eight Comorians at the Malindi Subcounty hospital following a boat accident.
The boat wreck occurred at the deep sea off Watamu when a small boat ferrying 15 Comorians from Nzuani Island to Mayotte Island developed engine problems and started capsizing.
According to KDF, the crew were stuck at sea for 22 days unfortunately losing seven sailors.
“The eight survivors were rescued by local fishermen from Watamu area, taken to Malindi sub county and received medical care from the Kenya Navy medical team,” read part of the statement.
This comes three weeks after the Kenya Navy Special Boat Unit (SBU) team rescued a crew of seven from a capsizing boat headed to Kismayu, Somalia.
The crew of seven, one Indian and six Tanzanians, were allegedly on board MV Ferooz on a voyage to Kismayu, Somalia from Dar Salaam in Tanzania to buy scrap metals.
The boat Chief Engineer Swaleh Lamazani said that they developed technical complications after their water pump failed and water started flooding the boat’s main engine shutting it down.
“Realizing that we were taking in more water than we could draw out, we placed a distress call and Kenya Navy immediately came to our rescue,” noted the engineer.
The crew was rescued and handed over to Lamu Port Police Station for further processing.
