DPP vows to deal firmly with electoral offenders

Electoral offenders will be dealt with accordingly, Director of Public Prosecution Keriako Tobiko has said.

Speaking during a media workshop on elections preparedness today, DPP through head of communications Beatrice Omari stated that the offenders during and after elections will not be spared to ensure a credible process.

Tobiko said his office has come up with measures to ensure that the  August 8 general elections are free from electoral malpractices.

According to DPP, election offences include hatespeech, incitement to violence, assault and damage to property.

“ODPP has placed 105  specially trained prosecutors across the country who will handle  elections offences,” said Omari.

She further added that ODPP has established a special 24 hour call centre and bought hotlines to help the public report on election malpractices.
