Tiktoker Kakan Maiyo arrested by DCI sleuths after viral video on abductions
"Detectives trailed the suspect to Kimathi House, where he was operating a discreet office under the name LetaPeleka Logistics
TikToker Godfrey Mwasiaga Kakan Maiyo is expected to be arraigned in court today after he was arrested yesterday evening by sleuths from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) for allegedly inciting violence against police officers and their families.
The tiktoker was traced to Kimathi House along Kimathi Street in the Nairobi Central Business District (CBD).
In a statement on their social media, DCI said Maiyo was operating a discreet office, LetaPeleka Logistics.“Godfrey Mwasiaga Kakan Maiyo, the suspect behind a viral video inciting violence against police officers and their families, has been arrested. The video had been uploaded to his TikTok account.
“Detectives trailed the suspect to Kimathi House, where he was operating a discreet office under the name LetaPeleka Logistics,” the DCI stated.
This comes after a video circulating on social media showed DCI officers arresting Maiyo at his office on the evening of Wednesday, July 9.
In the video, Maiyo is heard lamenting his arrest and warning the officers to handle him carefully, cautioning that they might get shocked by electricity.
This is even as his friends claimed that they have not been able to trace him and that he was not at the police station where he was reportedly taken.
“Our friend Kakan Maiyo was picked up at his Letapeleka Offices (his business) in town (Nairobi) as shown in the video below. It is said he was taken to a police station, but he is not there; family and friends are concerned about his safety,” his friend Poet Peetstar wrote on Facebook.
The DCI has, however, faced backlash on their social media statement about the arrest of Maiyo as Kenyans accused them of lying that he ran a discreet office, yet he showcased his hustle on TikTok.
According to netizens, the DCI was pressed by Maiyo, calling them out for abducting and enforcing disappearances.
“How was he running a ‘discreet office’ when he publicly showcased all his side hustles on TikTok and even said exactly where to find him? Be honest, you’re just pressed, he called out the DCI in this video,” Joseph Mbatha stated.
In the video, which has since gone viral, Maiyo called out the police for abducting Kenyans, saying their families will suffer the consequences of their actions.
He added that he was speaking with authority from ‘God’.
