KCPE exams kick off countrywide

The 2020 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education( KCPE) kick off today countrywide as 1.2 million candidates are set to sit the for the exams.
The national exams were five- months delayed due to closure of learning institutions to lower the spread of Covid-19.
The Ministry of Education has put tough Covid-19 protocols given the rising numbers of positive cases in the country.
Rehearsals for KCPE exams were conducted on Friday, with Education Cabinet Secretary prof. George Magoha saying all the Class Eight students must sit the exams whether registered or not.
Magoha made the remarks amid reports that some private schools may have failed to register their students for the exams despite receiving registration fees.
“There are a few unscrupulous teachers from private schools who I understand did not register candidates. As the teachers and proprietors are investigated, the children must be allowed to take their examinations,” he said.
It will be the first time candidates will wear a mask while in the examination room.
It is compulsory for officials at the examination centres to use sanitisers or wash their hands before being allowed to handle examination materials.
At examination centres, all officials must wash their hands or sanitise before they open scripts for distribution to candidates and must use sanitisers or wash their hands before frisking candidates.
The candidates will today be tested Mathematics, English languages and Composition papers.
Tomorrow they’ll write Science, Kiswahili Lugha and Insha while Social studies and Religious studies.
Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education( KCSE) rehearsals are set for this Thursday.
Magoha is expected to lead his Cabinet colleagues, Principal Secretaries, Chief Administrative Secretaries (CAS) and County education officials in ensuring smooth delivery and administration of the examinations.
