Juliana Cherera appointed as the new IEBC vice chairperson

Juliana Whonge Cherera has been unanimously elected as the vice-chairperson of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
In a statement, IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati said Cherera was elected by the commissioners in a plenary meeting held on Tuesday.
“The Commission takes this opportunity to congratulate Cherera on her appointment and would like to assure all stakeholders and the public in general of its commitment to delivering a free, fair and credible 2022 General Election that meets the democratic aspirations of the people of Kenya,” reads the statement.
She takes over from Connie Nkatha who resigned from the commission in April 2018.
Nkatha resigned alongside Margaret Mwachanya and Paul Kurgat after falling out with Chebukati citing lack of confidence in the commission.
Cherera was among the four new commissioners appointed to the electoral body by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Others include; Francis Wanderi, Irene Masit and Justus Abonyo.
The commission has reaffirmed its mission to deliver credible elections in 2022.
