Isaac Kibwage appointed Vice-Chancellor of Egerton University

Professor Isaac Ongubo Kibwage has been appointed as the sixth Vice-Chancellor of Egerton University.

He replaces Rose Mwonya who retired in June 2020.

According to acting university council chairperson Dr. Wilson Kipruto Ronnoh, the move follows consultations with Education Cabinet Secretary Prof George Magoha.

“Following the interview process carried out by the Public Service Commission (PSC) and after consultation with the Cabinet Secretary for Education, in exercise of the provisions of Section 35(1)(a)(v) of the Universities Act, 2012, we, the Egerton University Council, have on this 5th Day of October 2021 appointed Professor Isaac Ongubo Kibwage, HCS  as the new Vice-Chancellor of Egerton University,” read the memo.

Prior to his appointment, he served as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration, Planning and Development at the university.

Kibwage also doubled as the acting VC since the retirement of Prof Mwonya.

Before joining Egerton, he served as a Professor of Pharmaceutical Chemistry in the School of Pharmacy in Nairobi University.

During May 2007- May 2017, Kibwage served as the Principal of College of Health Sciences, University of Nairobi where he was the Academic Research, Financial and Administrative head of the college.

He has held various positions in the Pharmaceutical Society of Kenya including the Chairmanship for a period of 6 years.

His appointment takes effect immediately.
