Governor Mutua eats a humble pie to compete for Mwala parliamentary seat
Maendeleo Chap Chap party leader and Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua is running for the Mwala parliamentary seat.
According to an election commission registration, Mutua, who is serving his second term as governor, recently abandoned Raila Odinga’s Azimio Coalition in favour of Deputy President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza Alliance.
The inclusion in the Mwala parliamentary contest means that the governor will face off against Ruto’s candidate, incumbent Vincent Musyoka alias Kawaya.
Musyoka has been a staunch supporter of the DP, leading several campaigns for him in Machakos County alongside UDA governor aspirant Johnson Muthama.
Other candidates for the seat include Roda Nduku, who is running on a Kanu ticket, and Barckleih Kilei, who is running on a Wiper ticket.
People’s Trust Party’s Kimilu Justus Safari, Chama Cha Uzalendo’s Kilungu Julius Mutua and ODM’s Kioko Grace Muthakye are also running.
However, the governor later tweeted that he will not run in the August elections, although he did not identify who submitted his name to the IEBC.
