Wetangula says Covid-19 cannot be eradicated by use of lockdowns and curfews only

Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula has come out to criticize the lockdown of five counties move saying Covid-19 cannot be eradicated by use of lockdowns and curfews only.

This comes barely a week after Nairobi, Kajiado, Machakos, Kiambu and Nakuru counties were declared disease infested.

Speaking in the Senate, Wetangula said curfews and cessation of all movement in and out of the five counties will do little to reverse coronavirus infections and the government should instead come up with more viable measures to help Kenyans fight the deadly virus.

“I call upon the government to launch mass testing and vaccination programmes to eradicate the Covid-19 virus in the five counties placed under lockdown,” he said.

The Ford Kenya party leader said with the country recording the highest positivity rate of 26.6 per cent the government should make Covid-19 testing and vaccination priority  in the five counties placed under lockdown.

Wetangula said the government should move with speed and help vulnerable Kenyans across the five counties afford basic necessities.

“And as many Kenyans continue to endure job losses, businesses closures  and disrupted livelihoods due to effects of the measures put in place to fight the Covid-19 pandemic, the government should help the counties afford basic necessities,” he concluded.
