IEBC reacts to presidential results declaration court ruling

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has said that the Court of Appeal ruling on tallying of presidential results was not a win or lose situation but a clarification process for the commission.

IEBC yesterday suffered a major blow after losing in the case where the commission had challenged an earlier ruling by the high court that declared presidential results announced by the constituency returning officers are final.

IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati at the same time said the commission will continue with printing of ballot papers since the court did not stop it

Speaking today during the last conference of IEBC staff at a Nairobi hotel, IEBC Chair Wafula Chebukati said that the ruling comes as a clarification to specific articles of the constitution and dismissed claims that “the commission has lost”, citing that it was not a matter of winning.
