IEBC finalise tally on presidential election
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has finalised the tallying process of the hotly-contested presidential election at the National Tallying Centre, Bomas of Kenya.
IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati is expected to announce the winner any moment from now.
Today will make the seven-day process of verifying the results forms come to a close, and the IEBC is now scheduled to announce the outcomes of the elections held on August 9.
The Kenyan Constitution’s Article 138, subsection 4, states that “A candidate shall be deemed elected as President if the candidate receives- (a) more than 50 per cent of all the votes cast in the election.”
Prior to the official announcement, security was beefed up at the Bomas of Kenya and other key facilities in the nation’s capital, Nairobi, as well as other regions.
Out of 291 constituencies, results from 263 had been validated and reported by this morning by the Commission.
The winning percentage for the presidential election is 50 plus one votes, or 50 per cent of the total votes plus one.
Additionally, the winner needs to receive 25 per cent of the vote in all 24 counties.
Agents from the Kenya Kwanza Alliance and Azimio La Umoja One Kenya have already occupied positions in the auditorium.
