Hong Kong 7s: Shujaa relegated to challenge trophy, set to play New Zealand in quarterfinals
Kenya National Rugby Sevens Team Shujaa will tomorrow morning play New Zealand in the challenge trophy quarterfinals at the Hong Kong sevens after recording all loses in the group stage. Shujaa lost 28-12 in the Fridays pool D opener to Ireland, before going down to Argentina 26-7 early morning today.
Willy Ambaka and Billy Odhiambo each scored one try as Shujaa closed out their Pool D campaign in Hong Kong with a 14-19 loss to Canada.
The Canadians were the first to score through Phil Berna whose converted effort put them 7-0 up before Tony Omondi converted Ambaka’s try to restore parity.
Lachlan’s converted try on the stroke of halftime put Canada 14-7 up. Berna would then add his brace for a 19-7 lead before Daniel Taabu converted Odhiambo’s late effort to confirm the result.
Samoa dominated the “pool of death” at the Hong Kong Rugby Sevens on Saturday, beating Australia and the hosts to barrel their way into the next round.
