Harambee Stars players to receive Sh3million cash reward after Sunday triumph

Speaking after visiting the team at their dressing room after the match, President William Ruto stated that the players would receive his Sh2.5million reward early today

Harambee Stars players are set to receive a Sh3million cash reward from President William Ruto’s Sh2.5million pledge and and an additional Sh500,000 to every one of them from ODM Leader Raila Odinga after their victory against Chipolopolo of Zambia yesterday.

Speaking after visiting the team at their dressing room after the match, President William Ruto stated that the players would receive his Sh2.5million reward early today.

“Mapema kesho… Early tomorrow morning,” the President told the players.

Moments after, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga shared a statement pledging half a million for each of the National team players.

“ODM Party Leader Raila Odinga has promised to give Harambee Stars Sh500,000 each after beating Chipolopolo of Zambia 1-0 in an entertaining match staged at Kasarani,” ODM announced in a statement.

Ruto had promised to award each player Sh2.5 million if they beat Zambia, and Sh1 million and a house if they advance past the quarter-finals.

In his statement after yesterday’s game, Ruto congratulated the team for their win and promised to honor his promises.

“At the beginning of the CHAN tournament, no one gave our Harambee Stars a chance of going past the group stages. After all, we were in the so-called “Group of Death.” Yet, our boys have triumphed. Congratulations, Harambee Stars! You have done the nation proud, inspiring immense joy and uniting our country in celebration. Now, march forward and conquer the continent. Do not settle for less — just as we, as a nation, must never settle for anything less than glory. As for me, I will play my part. After all, the cure for debt is paying it off,” the President wrote on his social media.

Harambee Stars confirmed their spot at the African Nations Championship (CHAN) PAMOJA 2024 following their one-nil victory over Chipolopolo of Zambia.

In a hard-fought victory yesterday, Kenya finished top of Group A with ten points, confirming their dominance of the group and finishing unbeaten at the group stages.

The victory goal was scored by Ryan Ogam at the 75th minute of the second half after a nil draw in the first half.

The match was finely balanced until the 75th minute, when substitute Boniface Muchiri found space on the right and delivered a clever ball into the area.

Ogam controlled well before calmly slotting past Charles Kalumba in the Zambian goal to send the 27,000-strong Nairobi crowd into raptures.

The goal was a reward for Kenya’s persistence after dominating possession and creating several openings that were either blocked or denied by Kalumba, who had an outstanding evening despite his side’s defeat.

Kenya had already beaten Morocco and DR Congo earlier in the group, results that established them as the surprise package of the tournament.
