DNA samples taken as probe into rape allegation at Moi Girls continues

Possible inside act or a break in by external parties are the two possibilities investigators and Government Chemist officers have narrowed down in trying to unearth the rape ordeal against a Form Two student at Moi Girls student in Nairobi.

Yesterday, a team of officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations and Government Chemist officials revisited the scene to take fresh samples for DNA profiling to be compared with samples taken from eight individuals, six male teachers and two members of subordinate staff.

A preliminary police findings report showed the heinous act was committed in Elgon washrooms. Shockingly, the cubicle E-5 dormitory in which the victim sleeps is adjacent to Matrons cubicle. The matron identified as Monica Wambui said she was woken up by a loud bang on her do and deafening distress call by girls informing them one of them has been defiled.

“The investigation is underway and persons of interests in the case will be identified. It is too early to comment.” A senior detective said. Although the matter is under Kilimani CID office, the investigations are headed by Nairobi CID boss Ireri Kamwende.

The victim was yesterday taken through counselling session at Mazingira House and also gave an account of what transpired. She was treated at Nairobi Womens Hospital. In trying to reconstruct the scene of crime, the sleuths cordoned off the scene of crime, Elgon lavatories occupied by four girls in which one was monstrously defiled.

The scene was not yet cleaned and detectives are banking on samples taken to see if there is corresponding DNA with any of the eight suspects interrogated so far. Blood samples, semen and buccal swap were taken. According to medics, blood sample takes about two weeks while semen and buccal swap take up to a month for the DNA results to be out.

Yesterday, former Moi Girls students staged protests decrying increased insecurity and what they called administrative negligence in the school. “We want a total overhaul of the school administration and board of management. It cannot be that the safety of students is compromised because of laxity and negligence.” Agnes Adhiambo lamented. Last year, nine girls perished in an arson attack at Moi Girls.

Pathologists at Chiromo Mortuary used bones for DNA test because they could not get tissues or body fluids since the bodies were extensively burnt. The Form One student allegedly implicated as having committed the act has since been charged in court.

Meanwhile, detectives at Kilimani Police Station are investigating a reported rape case against a Cameronian national who raped his friend’s girlfriend inside their car. Abbah Valery Jusquard aged 37 is said to have attacked the lady after locking the door from inside after his boyfriend stepped out at B Club in Kilimani’s parking lot. They were on a drinking spree in the said club before the incident happened.
