Government to establish film making centres countrywide

The national government, through the Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) will establish Art promotion centres dubbed ‘Sinema Mashinani’ Centres in a bid to enable youth to effectively exploit their talents in the film and arts industry.

Speaking at Isiolo Boys High School where the first such centre will be established, KFCB CEO Dr Ezekiel Mutua said the government will set up similar centres across all schools that were identified as talent centres in all counties. Each County has one school recognised by the ministry of education as a talent centre.

He expressed optimism that the centre will provide a perfect platform for young people who have talents in the Arts and Film industry to exploit their abilities and earn from the same.

He reiterated the board’s commitment towards content regulation to ensure that high moral standards are observed. Dr Mutua cited ‘The Blue Whale Challenge’ as a game that is geared towards influencing children to commit suicide.
