Gem MP Elisha Odhiambo accuses Edwin Sifuna and Simba Arati of causing problems in ODM

He also censured Public Service CS Justin Muturi over his recent criticism of the government regarding abductions, saying he must must either align with the official position or step aside.

Gem Member of Parliament (MP) Elisha Odhiambo has hit out at Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, accusing him of embracing political theatrics instead of offering strategic leadership.

“Rather than acting as a stabilising force, Sifuna has chosen the path of arrogance, divisiveness, and political gamesmanship that serve no one but his own ambitions,” he said at a press conference in Nairobi.

Sifuna, who is also the Nairobi Senator, has been openly critical of the broad-based government which incorporated former ODM top brass following the crisis sparked by the Gen Z anti-tax protests last year, insisting the Orange Party will field a candidate against President William Ruto.

He holds that Ruto’s failure to deliver on his campaign pledges will render him a one-term president regardless of how broad a coalition he forms for his re-election bid.

During the press conference, Odhiambo also accused Kisii Governor Simba Arati of disrespecting the party leadership through his confrontational style, saying it is a recipe for ODM’s collapse.

“ODM does not need internal saboteurs masquerading as leaders. If Sifuna and Arati are more invested in tearing the party apart than in defending its ideals and strengthening its structures, then they must be called out for what they truly are: political opportunists, not reformists,” he added.

He added that leadership is not about who can shout the loudest or undermine others the most.

“It is about vision, strategy, and collective responsibility. ODM must choose: order and purpose, or disorder and decline. The time for political mischief must end—or ODM risks digging its own political grave.”

At the same time, Odhiambo also censured Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi over his recent criticism of the government regarding abductions, saying he must must either align with the official position or step aside.

While addressing the media in Nairobi, Odhiambo said Muturi has chosen to undermine national security when he chose to air his grievances on public platforms rather than through official channels.

Further, he added that Muturi’s recent outbursts questioning the integrity of the National Intelligence Service (NIS) would be understandable if they came from an opposition leader or an activist or those who operate outside the system and may not have direct access to institutional reform processes.

“His attacks on the NIS are not about national interest—they are a calculated act of self-preservation, designed to appeal to political forces outside the government who may soon become useful allies.”

While asking Muturi to pick a side, Odhiambo has urged Kenyans to reject leaders who thrive in confusion and disorder, adding that at a time when national unity and institutional resilience are paramount, Muturi’s actions are not just shameful but dangerous.

“If he believes that the government he serves is rotten, he should resign and take his fight to the opposition benches. But if he insists on staying within the government while actively attacking its institutions, then he is not just a political opportunist: he is a saboteur,” he said.

He, at the same time, said no institution or government agency is beyond scrutiny but added that what they need is strengthening and not sabotage.
