Four people lost their lives in an early morning accident after a matatu rammed into the rear end of a stalled trailer along the Nairobi-Mombasa Highway.
The incident took place at Sabaki Area in Athi River, Machakos county.
According to a police report at the Mlolongo police station, the four died on the spot after a matatu they were travelling in rammed into a stationary trailer opposite Total petrol station.
“…about 4:53 am at Mombasa Road opposite Total Petrol station a matatu has crushed from behind a stationery Trailer. Four passengers onboard in the matau are confirmed dead,” stated police report.
It is reported that a 14-seater matatu from Machakos was heading towards Nairobi before it rammed into a stalled trailer heading in the same direction.
The matatu is reported to have carried passengers to full capacity.
Those who were injured were rushed to Shalom community hospital Athi-river with those critical injured referred to Machakos level five hospital.
The four bodies have since been moved to Shalom community mortuary Athiriver.
