Former speaker Kaparo embroiled in bitter divorce with wife

Former National Assembly Speaker Francis Kaparo and his wife are embroiled in a bitter divorce suit over adultery claims.

His wife of 40 years, Mary Mpereina Kaparo has accused Kaparo of desertion and co-habiting with another woman at Eden Ville estate in Kiambu.

In suit papers filed before Kiambu Chief Magistrate Emily Ominde, Mary claims her husband has been living with a woman  identified as Korere Paulata.

“On several occassions, the respondent disappeared from the matrimonial home for a long period without any explanations and eventually went away,” read the suit papers.

She said she tried to salvage the marriage until Kaparo recently moved out of the house and started seeing the woman and both have allegedly settled.

According to Mary, Kaparo had acknowledged to having an affairs with women unknown to her.

She says that Kaparo has also questioned the peternity of some of their children.

However, Kaparo denied the allegations of cruelty saying his wife has been adulterous and cruel.

The former National Cohesion and Integration Commission chairman alleges Mary has a lover and he is a constant drunkard and often gets wild when drunk.

“The respondent (Kaparo) denies the allegations of cruelty and adultery. It is the petitioner who has been guilty of adultery and desertion,” Kaparo said.

“The petitioner has constantly caused physical, emotional and physiological torture on the respondent in an unprecedented measure of cruelty.”

He says that at one time, he was bedridden for five months and his wife never paid him a visit.

The case is set for mention on May 17,2022.

The two consumated their union in a traditional wedding in 1981 and later in a Catholic Church.
