Foreigners in Nairobi estates are tourists with valid papers, Oguna says

Government spokesperson Cyrus Oguna has said that foreigners, who started landing in the country several weeks ago are tourists with valid papers.

This comes after a video of Pakistan troping to an estate in Machakos County went viral, Kenyans questioning their mission in the country.

In a statement, Oguna said that all the Asians who have been arriving in the country not only possess legitimate passports but also followed due process before they were allowed into the country.

“They are tourists in the country legally and some usually prefer staying and travelling as families,” Oguna said.

Due to Covid-19, foreigners arriving in the country are supposed to be in isolation under the supervision of Kenyan Health officers, however, that is not the case with the Asians foreigners after the Health Ministry distanced itself from any kind of arrangement between Kenya and Asia.

Health Acting Director-General Patrick Amoth said the arrival of the foreigners in the country is under Ministry of Interior.

“…and as long as they meet the health requirements, we have no control over that,” he said.

The Pakistans flocked Airbnb’s located in Nyayo Estate, Syokimau, Athi River, Kitengela, Kahawa West, Kenyatta Road and Magadi Road due to the high hotel bills.

It is reported that those Pakistans are travelling to Saudi Arabia to work as labourer since Saudi banned direct flight to Pakistan.
