Focus on more jobs not only salary increases, President Ruto tells unions
President William Ruto wants trade unions to change their approach to labour issues.
He challenged them to expand their focus from salary increment to creation of more jobs and more savings.
“We cannot move forward as a country when we engage in retrogressive politics,” he said.
He spoke today when he met workers’ representatives led by COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli at State House, Nairobi.
He added that labour unions are integral drivers of policy-making that contribute to equality and inclusive socio-economic development.
He urged the unions to also look into the welfare of workers, especially those in the Diaspora.
Gachagua on the other hand said the government will work with all leaders for unity and development of the country.
“Elections should not be an issue to divide the country,” he said.
