23-year-old held over alleged abuse of three children in Ndhiwa, Homa Bay County

Ndhiwa Sub-County Police Commander John Losia confirmed the arrest, saying the suspect had denied the allegations.

Police in Ndhiwa, Homa Bay County, have arrested a 23-year-old man accused of sexually abusing his three paternal cousins, including nine-year-old twins and their 12-year-old sibling.

The suspect, described by investigators as a relative known to the children, allegedly visited their home last Saturday in a village in South West Kwabai Location, Ndhiwa Sub-County, when the children were alone.

Police said the suspect allegedly used various tactics to gain the children’s trust before sexually abusing them.

The children later disclosed the alleged abuse to their parents, who reported the matter to police, triggering investigations and a search for the suspect.

According to police, the 23-year-old went into hiding after learning that officers were looking for him. He eventually surrendered at Ndhiwa Police Station on Monday this week, where he was arrested.

Ndhiwa Sub-County Police Commander John Losia confirmed the arrest, saying the suspect had denied the allegations.

“He told us that he did not touch the children,” Losia said.

The three children have since been taken to hospital for medical examination, with police awaiting the results as investigators seek to establish what transpired.

Losia also visited the children’s home, where he confirmed their ages as part of the ongoing investigation.

Police are now piecing together the circumstances surrounding the alleged abuse, including the events leading to the children’s disclosure and the suspect’s interactions with them before and during the reported incident.

The suspect is expected to face charges once investigators complete their inquiries and establish that there is sufficient evidence to support prosecution.

“The suspect would be charged once investigations are complete and we have sufficient evidence,” Losia said.
