Uhuru allies nominated as CSs to face National Assembly vetting panel tomorrow

The Parliamentary Committee on Appointments, chaired by National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula is set to interview three allies of the retired president Uhuru Kenyatta nominated for the Cabinet Secretary positions by president William Ruto tomorrow at the County Hall, parliament buildings in Nairobi.
Those who are slotted for interviews include Mutahi Kagwe, William Kabogo and Lee Kinyanjui. Kagwe, who was a former Health Cabinet Secretary portfolio under retired President Uhuru Kenyatta, has been nominated to head the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development,
Kabogo, a former Kiambu governor, has been designated to hold the Ministry of Information, Communications, and the Digital Economy, while Kinyanjui, a former Nakuru Governor, has been proposed to head the Ministry of Investments, Trade, and Industry.
Kagwe who was once Nyeri Senator, is scheduled to appear before the Committee as the first nominee on Tuesday at noon, Kabogo will take the stand at 3:00 p.m., followed by Kinyanjui at 5:00 p.m.
The three were nominated for the CS positions by President William on December 19, 2024. The three, who are former President Uhuru Kenyatta, were nominated in a reshuffle that saw two CSs dropped from their dockets.
The nominations followed a meeting held between Dr William Ruto and his predecessor Mr Kenyatta. Other allies of Kenyatta who have made it into the Government are former Laikipia Governor Ndiritu Muriithi and former Deputy Speaker Kembi Gitura.
Muriithi has been appointed chair of the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) board, while Mr Gitura will chair the board of Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral, and Research Hospital (Kerra).
The changes were hoped would calm the political heat that generated after the impeachment of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua in October last year. Gachagua was impeached on five out of 11 charges including gross violation of the constitution and stirring ethnic hatred, in a motion that was backed by opposition lawmakers and Ruto allies. He denied all the accusations.
