The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has told political parties to use their own party registers to conduct the ongoing party primaries.
In a message posted on its official twitter handle, the commission clarified that the current register of voters they are preparing is only for voter identification.
The commission is supposed to ensure that the final voters register is gazetted and certified at least 30 days before the August 8 general election.
The commission as not yet published the latest register, taking into account new voters registered in February as well as those removed from the list.
Reads the message: “Political Parties should use their own members list to conduct primaries, not IEBC register. In any case we are preparing the national register of voters for verification. Section 31(2D), as amended, restricts parties to use their party registers.”
The statement by the commission came after various aspirants participating in the ongoing party primaries demanded that parties use the IEBC register as opposed to party registers.
