ELDOWAS shuts down water treatment plant after man jumps in and drowns

It says the closure of the plant was a precautionary measure to allow for comprehensive cleaning, flushing, and disinfection of the treatment tanks and pipelines

The Eldoret Water and Sanitation Company (ELDOWAS) has temporarily shut down the Kesses Water Treatment Plant after a young man jumped into one of the tanks and drowned.

In a statement, ELDOWAS said the tragic incident occurred on Wednesday after the young man gained unauthorised access into the plant. It said despite swift efforts by our staff to intervene, the man could not be saved.

It said closure of the plant was a precautionary measure to allow for comprehensive cleaning, flushing, and disinfection of the treatment tanks and pipelines under the supervision of public health authorities.

“Additionally, independent laboratory testing is being conducted to ensure that all water meets regulatory safety standards before supply is restored. To minimise service disruption, alternative water supply arrangements have been activated for the affected areas.”

“We appreciate our customers’ patience and will continue to provide updates through our official communication channels. ELDOWAS remains committed to delivering safe and clean water to all residents. We apologise for any inconvenience and assure you of our ongoing efforts to enhance the water supply system,” it added.
