Shock after woman kills neighbour in Nairobi’s Makadara area over petty water fight

Joyce Namee Mutsami is now facing charges of manslaughter contrary to section 202 as read with section 205 of the Penal Code after killing her neighbour identified as Noel Onyango

A 45 years old woman is facing manslaughter charges after allegedly killing a neighbor during a petty fight over water in a residential plot within Mbotela estate in Nairobi’s Makadara Sub County.

Joyce Namee Mutsami is now facing charges of manslaughter contrary to section 202 as read with section 205 of the Penal Code after killing her neighbour identified as Noel Onyango.

She allegedly fought and smashed her to the ground.

Mutsami allegedly assaulted Onyango on June 12, 2025 during a fight after accusing her of bypassing other neighbours during a water fetching exercise.

The suspect was drunk during the fight and was overhead telling the deceased “you die, I will go to Langata (Langata Women’s Prison) as you go to grave” while the deceased lay down unconscious after she pushed her down during the brief fight.

Onyango was rushed to a nearby hospital where she was referred to Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital in Embakasi but relatives and well-wishers who took her to the hospital found doctors on strike and left the facility without any treatment and returned home.

She died at home and a postmortem conducted a week later established that the cause of the deceased’s death was a multiple injuries caused by blunt force trauma consistent with assault.

Mutsami was arrested and Investigations by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) established that Mutsami and Onyango had fought hours earlier and Mutsami was insulting everyone around while drunk, and linked her to the unfortunate death of the deceased.

Senior Principal Prosecution Counsel Sarah Ogweno of the Office of Director of Public Prosecutions recommended manslaughter charges after reviewing the investigations file.

Mutsami escaped murder charges because investigations findings didn’t indicate she had plans of murdering the deceased and that the same was as a result of a random fight.

The suspect denied the charges before Senior Principal Magistrate Paul Rotich of Makadara Law Courts.

She was released on a Cash bail of Sh100, 000 pending trial.

The matter will be mentioned on July 14, 2025 for pretrial and setting hearing date.
