DPP Haji outlines agenda after meeting advisory board
The Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji outlined his agenda after meeting the ODPP advisory board over the weekend. A day before meeting the advisory board meeting, Haji convened a meeting with all departmental heads under the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions for stock taking mission.
The heads of department were tasked to present status reports, requirements and the agenda of their respective portifolios as the DPP settles down to work. “The DPP held a meeting with the advisory board. He also convened a lengthy meeting with heads of departments.” A senior official said.
According to impeccable sources, Haji is seeking to streamline operations in his office and also seek to capacity build the institution which he succeeded from his predecessor and Environment Cabinet Secretary Keriako Tobiko.
To effect the changes, the Haji requires concurrence from the advisory board which is mandated to advise the DPP on recruitment and appointment of staff, promotions and disciplinary processes of the staff members.
Besides the DPP who chairs the board, other members include; Attorney General , Secretary Public Prosecutions, Principal Secretary, Ministry of State for Public Service, Chief Registrar of the Judiciary, Principal Secretary, National Treasury, chairperson, Law Society of Kenya, director from Witness Protection Agency, chairperson, Kenya National Commission on Human Rights and the Inspector General of the National Police Service.
Haji who is well known for his keenness to detail commands vast knowledge and experience in investigations and security analysis. He been an advocate of the High Court for 19 years and previously work for the spy agency, the National Intelligence Service (NIS) as Deputy Director.
While taking over office, Haji committed to redirect the operations of the DPP to ensure more cooperation, especially with the investigative arms and to introduce an internal affairs department that would enforce strict ethics.
