Autopsy shows one of the Murang’a bank heist suspects was shot 9 times
An autopsy examination on the body of the late Joseph Kamau, one of the two suspects involved in a daring heist Unaitas Sacco in Murang’a has revealed he was shot nine times.
Kamau aged 30 years and said to be a former police officer was shot three times to the head and six times to the chest and abdomen.
The postmortem was conducted in presence of of his family members and officers from the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA).
Speaking to the media, Kamau’s father Francis Kang’ethe said the family was shocked following reports of the killing of his son.
He said he learnt of his death through social media and appealed for speedy investigations to unravel the mysterious circumstances under which he died.
The other suspect killed alongside Kamau is yet to be positively identified.
IPOA has already commenced investigations into the alleged killing of the men on Sunday after a fierce shootout took place with police officers in Murang’a.
IPOA Chairperson Anne Makori said the initial investigations revealed that police officers were involved in the killing.
“The Authority launched investigations immediately and has since established police action was an ingredient that resulted to the loss of lives.” Makori said.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, the two men were part of a gang that allegedly robbed Unaitas Sacco Munuga branch, within Kigumo town on Saturday, March 11
“The marauding gang of six that has been on police radar had on February 25, wrestled an AK-47 rifle loaded with 14 rounds of ammunition from police officer on patrol within Muthithi area, which they used in the robbery incident,” said the DCI.
However, police in Murang’a have since discounted claims that the two suspected robbers were killed after being arrested.
