Court nullify 2022 election of Lagdera MP Abdikadir Hussein

The High court has nullified Lagdera Member of Parliament Abdikadir Hussein’s victory during the August 2022 general election.

This comes after a petition challenging Hussein’s victory filed by Abdiqani Zeitun of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

The High Court ruled that there were irregularities in his election and ordered a re-election to be held on a date decided by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

The ruling comes after the court in February ordered a recount of the Constituency’s votes that revealed that his victory was marred with disparity.

Hussein who ran for the Lagdera parliamentary seat on an Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party ticket garnered 5,939 against Zeitun’s 4,863 votes.

He becomes the first lawmaker to lose his seat.
