An Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) commissioner has alleged that a foreigner gained access to the electoral body’s server, lending credence to suspicions that poll results were tampered with.
In response to a presidential petition filed by Azimio One Kenya Alliance leader Raila Odinga and Martha Karua, IEBC Commissioner Justus Nyang’aya stated that a foreigner and three IEBC employee members seized Form 34As in the electoral body’s system and modified the results.
“As far as I am aware, the commission had developed any protocol or other guidelines that would indicate circumstances when an already uploaded form 34A from the polling station would be pulled down and be replaced subsequently,” he stated.
Nyang’aya also named three IEBC employees, Abdidahir Maalim, Moses Sunkuli, and Gideon Balang, as another group of people who downloaded results from the servers and uploaded fresh ones.
He claims that the three employees worked directly with IEBC head Wafula Chebukati and assisted him in processing presidential results announced at the Bomas of Kenya.
Ruto launched his defense yesterday, claiming that the election was free, fair, transparent, and verifiable.
Following the hotly disputed presidential results, nine presidential election petitions were filed with the Supreme Court.
