Man commits suicide after killing his 3-year-old son in Embakasi

Police are investigating a murder-suicide case in which a youthful man has killed his three-year-old son before committing suicide through hanging in Tassia, Embakasi in Nairobi.

Victor Ayieko, 30, is said to have been angered by her wife, Nancy Adhiambo’s decision to move in with a new man out of their matrimonial home.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) report, Ayieko had sneaked into their house in Tassia estate and left with the boy, Derick Okeyo, before he killed him and hanged himself.

Adhiambo and Christopher Okeyo had left in the morning to fend for the family and on returning back, their son was nowhere to be seen.

“She inquired from her neighbors on his whereabouts and learnt that a man whose description fitted her former husband had been seen leaving with baby Derrick, on a motorbike,” read the report.

“They immediately rushed to Ayieko’s house in nearby Mukuru kwa Njenga only to break the door and find baby Derick’s lifeless body sprawled on the suspect’s bed, with Ayieko’s body hanging on an electric cable close by.”

A suicide note from Ayieko and Sh500 were found on the table, instructing Adhiambo to buy airtime worth the amount and inform the entire family of his demise.

Owing to the increased cases of missing children in city estates, the DCI has urged parents and guardians to guarantee the safety and security of their children, by leaving them in the hands of responsible adults whenever they are away.

“Report any case of child disappearance or abuse to DCI’s Anti Human Trafficking and Child Protection Unit for action,” DCI advised.
