Chuka University VC summoned over academic papers
Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has summoned Chuka University Vice-Chancellor Professor Erastus Njoka over academic papers acquired in Russia.
The anti-graft body wants the VC to authenticate how he acquired his papers and also validate the legibility of the the Patrice Lumumba People’s Friendship University in Russia.
The summon comes even as the Commission for University Education (CUE) gave the VC greenlight to teach the Russian languages at various institutions across the country.
“The commission hereby confirms that the said qualifications are authentic and therefore, duly recognised in Kenya,” read the letter signed by Gilbert Opanga, on behalf of CUE Chief Executive.
The commission defended Chuka VC arguing that the Patrice Lumumba People’s Friendship University is recognised by the Russian Federation and therefore qualifications awarded there are also accepted in Kenya.
However, EACC has continued to question the credibility of Njoka’s academics papers.
The commission in a bid to verify them, they have been writing to various institutions seeking disclosure of information about the same.
EACC has since earlier this year, written letters to various institutions requesting for information as it investigated the validity of the VCs academic papers.
In March, the EACC wrote to Egerton University vice-chancellor asking for documents and information about Njoka.
According to Njoka’s academic documents, he completed his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Agriculture (special Zootechny, animal products production technology) in 1993 at the Russian University.
He was later granted the right to teach the Russian language at courses and circles of Russian.
