Chebukati threatens to take legal action against Raila’s home visit allegations

Former Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chairperson Wafula Chebukati has threatened to take legal action on Azimio One Kenya coalition leader Raila Odinga if he fails to provide the video footage of an alleged visit to his house during the election period.

Through his lawyer Steve Ogolla, Chebukati said that the allegations made by Raila during a political rally have lowered his dignity and ruined his reputation.

“Our client is aggrieved that you took no action or responsibility while making the adverse remarks with the consequence that our client has suffered and continues to suffer serious reputational injury, taking into account his status and position as former chairman of IEBC,” a demand letter from his lawter Ogolla read.

The opposition leader during the Jacaranda rally on Sunday alleged that Chebukati and former IEBC commissioners Abdi Guliye and Boya Molu visited him at his home while the August 9,2022 elections was underway.

He further said that he had CCTV footages of their visit and threatened to release if the trio fail to disclose the aim of their visit.

“Chebukati said that there were people who tried to bribe them to moderate the election results. But they should also come claen on what they were doing in my house and what they asked for. I have CCTV footages and if they continue playing with our minds, I will release it,” he said.

President Ruto responded to Raila’s claims asking him why a presidential candidate at the time allowed audience with the electoral officials at his home and failed to mention the same at the Supreme Court during the election petition.
