Drama as Chiloba flee from rowdy youth who ate food meant for guest, demand audience with CS Owalo in Kisumu
Dramatic scenes played out today in Kisumu after rowdy youths stormed and disrupted World Consumers Rights Day commemoration event held at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Sports Complex in demanding an audience with Cabinet Secretary for ICT Eliud Owalo.
Although Owalo was the chief guest, he did not show up forcing Communications Authority (CA) of Kenya Chief Executive Officer Ezra Chiloba to assume the role.
However, he was forced to flee for his dear life after finishing his address when highly charged protestors stormed in but he had already left.
The protestors then ran towards the tents and the main stage causing panic amongst exhibitors and participants who were still at the venue.
They then ransacked areas that had food, drinking water, juices and other foodstuff.
Service providers scrambled to ensure the safety of their equipment including tents, chairs, music systems as the rowdy youths shouted anti-Eliud Owalo slogans.
Kisumu Central DCC Hussein Hussein who had earlier received a notice from the protestors arrived at the venue alongside other security officials to ensure the participant’s safety.
However, local leaders led by Deputy Governor Dr Mathew Owili, Kisumu Central MP Joshua Oron had earlier led the protestors in a march from Kondele towards the state lodge direction.
Protestors were marching while carrying twigs, sufurias, and waving anti-Kenya Kwanza administration placards.
The leaders vowed to keep protesting against President William Ruto’s government, adding that there shall be a last rally in the county on Friday ahead of the Monday 20th protests in Nairobi.
