Homicide probe launched after decomposed woman’s body found in sack dumped in Makunga River

Police in Kakamega County have launched investigations after the decomposed body of a woman was discovered wrapped in a sack and dumped in River Sasala in the Makunga area of Navakholo.

According to police, the body, stuffed inside a green sack was spotted floating on the river by local residents prompting them to alert authorities. Officers who arrived at the scene confirmed that the remains were already decomposed.

Preliminary reports indicate that the woman may have been killed elsewhere before her body was disposed of in the river. Detectives are treating the case as murder.

The body has since been retrieved and moved to the mortuary, where a post-mortem examination will be conducted to establish the cause of death. Police are appealing to families with missing relatives to come forward for identification.

In a separate incident, tragedy struck in Nkareta, Narok County, where a three-year-old boy died following a fire that gutted a residential structure. Police have launched inquiries into the cause of the fire.
