One person died and 10 others sustained critical injuries after two matatus collided and overturned at Gasi area along the Msambweni-Lungalunga road on Sunday night.
The accident occurred after one of the matatu drivers attempted to avoid hitting a cow that was crossing the road.
Confirming the incident, Kinondo area chief Ali Riga said the driver of one of the matatus lost control of the vehicle before colliding with the other which was coming from Msambweni.
“After the driver tried to avoid hitting the cow I think he had not seen the other matatu coming from Msambweni , leading to him to lose control of the vehicle. The two vehicles collided head on, ” Riga said.
Riga said the deceased was one of the matatu drivers.
“The driver lost his life on the spot and his body was immediately taken to Msambweni Referral Hospital Mortuary while the other 10 victims who had severe injuries were also taken to Msambweni hospital,” he said.
