President Ruto appoints Jaoko Oburu as Special Economic Advisor
Among his core duties will be providing policy advice on economic empowerment, focusing particularly on support for marginalized populations.
ODM leader Raila Odinga’s nephew, Jaoko Oburu Odinga, has been appointed as a special Economic Empowerment and Sustainable Livelihoods within the executive office of the president.
Jaoko announced his appointment by President William Ruto via his social media handles.
“I wish to take this opportunity to give special thanks to President William Samoei Ruto for granting me an opportunity to serve Kenyans by appointing me to serve in the capacity of Special Advisor, Economic Empowerment, and Sustainable Livelihoods,” Jaoko announced.
The son of the Siaya Senator Oburu Oginga thanked the former Prime Minister as he acknowledged his role in ensuring a conducive environment for all Kenyans.
“I also commend Raila Odinga for showing his faith in me and for creating a conducive environment for Kenyans from all walks of life to work together,” Jaoko added.
In the new role as a special economic advisor, Raila’s nephew is expected to play a major role in shaping economic inclusion and livelihood strategies targeting underserved and vulnerable groups.
He will be working closely with the President and top government officials to develop strategic plans that promote poverty reduction and job creation.
Among Jaoko’s core duties will be providing policy advice on economic empowerment, focusing particularly on support for marginalized populations.
He will also contribute to the development and assessment of national Programmes intended to boost entrepreneurship, improve access to finance, and create sustainable employment.
In addition to his advisory role, Jaoko will be involved in overseeing and coordinating government-led initiatives that prioritise youth and women’s empowerment.
His portfolio includes the promotion of microfinance opportunities, informal sector development, green jobs, and locally driven enterprises.
Jaoko’s new position also requires strong collaboration with key government ministries such as the National Treasury, Trade, and Labour.
He will also engage with county governments, civil society groups, and development partners to ensure that economic empowerment programs are rolled out successfully and reach the intended beneficiaries.
