Kalonzo rejected my offer to work with Kenya Kwanza, Ruto says
President William Ruto yesterday said that his plea to urge Azimio One Kenya coalition co-principal Kalonzo Musyoka to work with him bore no fruit.
Speaking during a thanksgiving service at the African Inland Church (AIC) Kitui county, Ruto noted that Kalonzo had rejected any form of unison and that he insisted firmly on working with the opposition party.
“As I had promised during my campaigns, I looked for Kalonzo and told him to unite and work with me but he told me he was comfortable in the opposition. Let him try that,” he said.
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua who was also in attendance at the service also claimed that they had tried to invite Kalonzo to the government but he had remained firm on his decision.
“We are actually waiting for Kalonzo. We have no problem with him. It is you to tell him what you want him to do because we do not understand him at all, Gachagua told the Ukambani leaders.
Gachagua also told the leaders that they would have to work hard if they wanted to pull the residents from the opposition side.
“We now have a government and the opposition. Kalonzo’s choice is as clear as daylight. It is upto you, sit down with him and agree. We are ready for Kalonzo but we don’t understand your leader anymore,” he said.
Machakos county governor Wavinya Ndeti had previously asked Ruto to consider working with the Wiper leader in his government.
“We know he is your brother and you have history. Please find a way of talking to him, I know you can,” she had said.
At the thanksgiving, Ruto was received by Kitui county governor Julius Malombe, and accompanied by Cabinet secretary nominees Alfred Mutua (Foreign Affairs) and Penina Malonza (Tourism, Wildlife and Heritage).
