Woman busted on live TV impersonating police officer comes in third after Passaris, Omanga
Monica Wamaitha Gitau, the woman who was busted on live television impersonating a police officer, has come in a distant third position in the Nairobi Woman representative race.
Results announced by the Nairobi County Returning officer today morning show that Monica – running on Usawa Kwa Wote Party ticket – came a distant third with 17,811 votes in a race that attracted seven candidates.
Incumbent Woman Representative Esther Passaris of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party successfully defended her sit after polling 698,929 votes.
Her closest competitor, United Democratic Alliance (UDA’s) Millicent Omanga garnered 586,246.
The women representative hopeful hit the headlines in June this year after she was arrested for impersonating a police officer.
Monica, dressed in full police uniform, was busted during a live interview at Inooro TV.
Police officers based at Kilimani Police Station had received information of an ongoing interview hosting an alleged uniformed female police officer as a panelist.
Doubting her credibility, police officers rushed to the TV station and arrested Monica who they said was a civilian vying for the Nairobi Woman Representative seat.
“To avoid similar incidences in the future, National Police Service (NPS) wishes to advise all Media Houses to always liaise for clearance with the Office of the Police Spokesperson or respective regional or county commanders over all requests for interviews with police officers,” the National Police Service advised at the time.
After her arrest, Monica was arraigned with charges of wearing police uniform contrary to Section 101 (a) of the National Police Service Act Cap 84 Laws of Kenya preferred against her.
