Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka jumps back to Azimio

After a month of back and forth, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka is back at the Azimio Coalition.

Musyoka, who was eyeing the top seat by being on the ballot in the August polls, said that he had considered all factors at hand and had decided to shelve his ambition and put the people’s interest first.

His statement was made during a burial in Mwala, Machakos county. “The decision I take is for your best interest. I will give a political statement within two days’ time.

That is why I am requesting the Kamba community to support my political move,” Musyoka said.

Musyoka has received intense pressure from the key stakeholders of the Azimio coalition, his party, and key pillars of the Kamba section of leaders to join the coalition.

However, he remained adamant about his position, saying that he was best suited to represent the people of Ukambani by being the presidential candidate.

The feud was further fueled by Odinga appointing Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua at the expense of Musyoka, who felt he deserved the position, having been a running mate for him in the 2007 and 2013 polls.

In a press statement, the party’s organising secretary, Robert Mbui, said that Musyoka did not have many options at hand and the best alternative for him was to join the Raila-led team.

“Moving forward where Kalonzo Musyoka stand is where the next government will be.

I want to assure you that we can’t work with Kenya Kwanza or Kenya Kwisha,” Mbui told a news conference after a consultative meeting in Machakos on Monday. On Friday, inter-faith church leaders urged Kalonzo to decide to join Azimio.

“We are calling on our candidate Kalonzo Musyoka, Azimio coalition, and Raila Odinga to engage in a dialogue.

Let them engage in a discussion at the top and come to us with their agreement,” Mbui said.

Kenyans will have to wait and see if Kalonzo truly headed to Azimio or retain his famed “watermelon label”.
