Waiguru elected new Council of Governors chairperson

Kirinyaga County governor Anne Waiguru has been elected the new Council of Governors (CoG) chairperson for the next four years.

Waiguru, a Kenya Kwanza Alliance affiliated county boss clinched the position after trouncing her Kajiado counterpart Joseph Ole Lenku of Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition.

Wajir Governor Ahmed Abdullahi will deputize Waiguru at the CoG.

In the election held in Mombasa on Saturday, Waiguru, who is affiliated with Kenya Kwanza Alliance, floored her Kajiado counterpart Joseph Ole Lenku of Azimio to clinch the seat.

Waiguru now takes over from former Embu Governor Martin Wambora who is the former CoG boss.

Meanwhile, Kajiado Deputy Governor Martin Moshisho was also elected as Deputy Governors’ chairperson, in a closed-door meeting held in Mombasa County.

Waiguru’s victory now ensures that the Kenya Kwanza coalition led by President William Ruto-has firm control of the government after also emerging winners in both Houses where it won Senate and National Assembly Speakers and their deputies slots.
