Deputy director of enforcement Peter Mbaya told the Star that the traders had encroached the bus terminus making it hard for public service vehicles to drop passengers in the said areas.
“The operations has started in Ngara where we have Muranga Road (Fig Tree) terminus A and Muranga Road (Fig Tree) Terminus B where traders have encroached leaving no space for the matatus,” Mbaya said.
The matatus are expected out of the CBD by the end of this week, according to a notice by Transport CEC Mohamed Dagane.
According to a gazette notice published last year, buses plying Waiyaki Way-Uhuru Highway, Kipande Road and Limuru are supposed to stop at Terminus A.
Routes accessing CBD from Thika Road and Kiambu Road up to and including Ruiru will terminate at Muranga Road (Fig Tree) Terminus B.
Mbaya added that the operation was executed by a multi-agency team that comprises all security agencies and will continue for the next three days.
Other traders that will be evicted include Park Road terminus, Muthurwa, and Desai Road terminus.
In Muthurwa, Mbaya said that the vehicles from Jogoo Road were meant to terminate there but traders have encroached the terminus and also operate in undesignated areas.
“The plan at Muthurwa was disrupted by traders who have occupied all available spaces leaving no space for matatus,” Mbaya said.
