MoH working with suppliers to address oxygen shortage
The Ministry of Health says its working with partners and suppliers to address the oxygen shortage situation.
The Ministry has formed Oxygen Taskforce to deal with the gas cylinder shortage in the country
The Taskforce is working on a Master plan as well as assessing the infrastructure and economies of scale per hospital to address the situation.
“Oxygen is an essential commodity in our drug list. Although we have oxygen plants across the country the oxygen is not sufficient,” reads the tweet.
According to the Ministry, the oxygen Taskforce has identified issues of service, maintenance and operations and pipping as a requirement, which we are currently working on to address with partners such as the World Bank and the French Government.
“All suppliers are working hard to address the shortage and ensure that the oxygen is available,” the Ministry tweeted.
On Covid-19 situation, the Ministry said that there has been a decline in hospitalisation particularly in paediatrics.
“We are monitoring adverse effects of the covid-19 vaccine safety through the Pharmacy and Poisons Board(PPB). Majority of the adverse effects are mild such as fever, and headache,” stated the Ministry.
By the end of the week the Ministry is targeting to have vaccinated over 400,000 people and by May 5th they can start to receive their second doses.
Those who received the Covid-19 vaccine outside the plan will still get their second dose.
“Currently we are continuing with training and expansion of vaccination posts from the initial 600, to expand our reach. First phase of vaccination initially targeted 1.2 million. When we expanded to include those over 58 years, our target changed to 3.2 million,” read the tweet.
