The Ministry of Defence and the Kenya Space Agency have today launched the Inaugural Kenya Space Expo Conference 2022 which aims to bring together industries, government representatives, and space enthusiasts.
The space expo will also bring together policymakers, academia, representatives of space agencies, and international organizations.
Ministry of Defence Chief Administrative Secretary Hon. Peter Odoyo who officially launched the event on behalf of his boss Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa, said that the space expo will bring an opportunity for stakeholders, the public, and investors.
“The inaugural Kenya space expo and Conference 2022 affords an opportunity for stakeholders, the public, and investors to seek out opportunities for enabling deeper interactions and strategizing to catapult the nation to greater heights in the space industry,” he said.
Kenya seeks to contribute to the African Union’s agenda 2063 through collaboration with the international partners in efforts to prioritize Kenyan’s space program as it is aligned to the national Kenya Vision 2030 and the medium-term plans, the big 4 initiative, and sector plans
The three-day event that began today under this year’s theme of Leveraging Space Capabilities for National Developments, the Expo and Conference will focus on leveraging space science, technologies, and applications to address existential socio-economic challenges and in the development of national economies.
During the launch, Kenya Space Agency chairman Major general (Rtd) James K. T. Aruasa, CBS said that the event demonstrates confidence in the region of space as they seek to enhance the civilization of space data.
“We are giving opportunities to actors in space to tell their stories and showcase their talents and ideas,” he said.
Nairobi Metropolitan Services, Director General Mohamed Badi said, this event boosts the Country’s space industry which has seen tremendous growth since the first satellites that were launched at Mt. Longonot in 1967.
In recent years, the space industry has undergone a major transformation. The recent developments have seen the democratization of the space sector leading to more public and private collaborations.
In October 2020, the Kenya Space Agency launched its 2020-2025 strategic plan, which focuses on the development of national space capabilities.
