Mutula Kilonzo win Makueni governor race

Senator Mutula Kilonzo has been declared the governor elect for Makueni county after beating his closest competitor Patrick Musimba in the gubernatorial race.

He will now succeed Kivutha Kibwana who served as the county head for 10 years.

Kilonzo emerged victorious with 214, 088 votes on a wiper ticket while his immediate rival who ran on an Independent ticket Musimba garnered 63, 252 votes.

The other three candidates vying for the seat include David Wambua of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party who obtained 8,378 votes.

Emmanuel Mutisya of the United Democratic Alliance who got 2,929 and Anderson Kaloki an independent candidate who garnered 843 votes.

Mutula thanked Makueni residents for believing in him and bestowing on him the great honour to be their governor.

“I sincerely thank the people of Makueni for their confidence and unanimous vote as their Second Governor,” he said on his twitter post.

In the Makueni Senate race, outgoing Mbooni Member of Parliament Daniel Maanzo trounced incumbent Governor, Kivutha Kibwana to be elected county senator.

He garnered 177, 273 votes under the Wiper Party ticket while Kivutha Kibwana came second with 59,034 votes under his Chama Cha Uzalendo Party.

Nark Kenya’s candidate Patrick Mbau had 36, 676 votes.
