Suspected members of the outlawed ‘Team Nati Dread’ gang arrested in Malindi
Eight suspected members of the outlawed ‘Team Nati Dread’ in Malindi are expected to be charged following their arrest during an intelligence-led operation yesterday, which was aimed at combating organized crime and led personally by the Officer Commanding Station (OCS).
The National Police Service (NPS) has shared that the operation began with the arrest of a key suspect.
The initial breakthrough provided critical information that led the police team to the gang’s alleged hideouts.
“The operation began with the arrest of one suspect who, upon interrogation, led officers to the Nat and Kwa Famau areas of Maweni,” NPS revealed.
“This resulted in the arrest of seven additional suspects believed to be members of a notorious gang known as Team Nati Dread,” it added.
The gang has long been a source of fear for residents, with the DCI confirming it “has been terrorizing residents in the area.”
During the subsequent raids, law enforcement officers recovered a cache of items believed to be used in or acquired from criminal activities.
During the operation, the officers recovered three pangas, two mobile phones, and assorted jewelry suspected of being stolen property.
The eight suspects are currently in police custody before arraignment.
This comes even as the Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, weeks ago, during the Maliza Uhalifu Operation tour in the Coast region, renewed the commitment by security forces to dismantle criminal networks in the region.
The CS also initiated a crackdown operation on drug trafficking networks.
